Silvertown Tunnel

Transport for London have put out to consultation plans to build a new tunnel under the River Thames at Silvertown.  Claims have been made that this will reduce congestion as well as revitalise the local economy.  NuSound Radio 92FM spoke to Darryl Chamberlain from the No to the Silvertown Tunnel Campaign to find out why they are against the plans.

Waltham Forest Council are planning to redevelop Fred Wigg and James Walsh Towers that overlook Wanstead Flats.  The Residents Action Group are opposing the plans that they see are unnecessarily disruptive and will lead to the loss of social housing on their estate.

The young women from the Focus E15 Housing campaign held a funday on the Carpenters Estate in Stratford before leaving the flats they had occupied for two weeks.  They had transformed the previously boarded up flats into a social centre as part of their campaign for decent genuinely affordable housing.

The Focus E15 Mothers organised a fun day celebration on the Carpenters Estate in Stratford, as part of their campaign for decent affordable accommodation in East London.  Held during the “Open House” weekend they opened up and occupied one of the blocks that has been empty for several years

Clapton FC

Fed up with the money orientated top football clubs, some local people have got together to form the Clapton Ultras.  More that just a supporters club they are as passionate about their stand on anti-racism and supporting progressive causes as they are about football.  Gareth Brown from the Clapton Ultras came along to the NuSound Radio 92FM studio to tell us more about it.

London City Airport.

Flights from London City Airport started up back in 1987.  Since then it has gradually increased the number of flights and the consequential impact on the local environment and residents.  The New Economics Foundation recently published a report assessing the economic impact closing down the airport completely would have and also looked at alternative uses for the site.
